When I was writing and revising my Research Proposal, I used a lot of what we practiced in class. Readings like Kain and Wardle’s “Activity Theory” helped me figure out how to explain my framework and connect it to my research site. Earlier homework on picking a research site also gave me practice focusing on something specific, which is why I chose the Twitch streamer “ohgawdkate” and their tournaments. I talked about course ideas like rhetorical practices, community, and rules to show how writing works inside esports events. I think I also worked on the class goals of asking strong research questions, finding ways to use sources, and thinking about how writing works in different places.

The hardest part of this paper was making my framework clear. At first, I wrote about Activity Systems but didn’t really explain how the pieces matched my site. After I got feedback, I added more detail about subjects, tools, rules, and the other parts, and I connected them to esports tournaments. I think my best success was showing how my theory and my research methods fit together. Feedback from my teacher helped me see what I needed to explain more, and I fixed that in revision. From this assignment, I learned how rewriting can make my ideas clearer and how to use theory to really guide my own project.
